Hungary must address crypto law amendment infringing EU rules, Commission says

( January 30, 2026, 12:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Hungary has been told by the European Commission that it must address a legislative amendment that is infringing the EU's crypto rules. The amendment of the Hungarian Crypto Act, in 2025, which introduces a new authorization regime for exchange validation services with criminal liability, is not provided under the EU's Market in Crypto-Assets regulation, or MiCA, the commission said. Hungary has two months to address the commission’s concerns before the issue could be escalated to a second warning and then possible legal action in the EU's highest court.See European Commission's statement below...
