Schufa wins appeal in Germany in data retention case

( December 18, 2025, 13:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Schufa has won its appeal in Germany against a ruling that it had breached the EU's GDPR data protection law by retaining an individual's data after the person's debts had been settled. The German Federal Court of Justice said on Thursday that the credit scoring agency had lawfully retained the individual's data under the legitimate interest provision beyond the specified period as it was obtained from its contractual partners and not from a public register. The German court revoked the previous judgement and sent it back to the appellate court for revision.Statement follows (in German). ...
