BOE unveils proposal to regulate sterling-denominated systemic stablecoins

( November 10, 2025, 09:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Bank of England has published its proposed rules for sterling-denominated systemic stablecoins. The BOE proposal includes allowing systemic stablecoin issuers to hold up to 60 percent of backing assets in short-term UK government debt and temporary holding limits of £20,000 per coin for individuals and £10 million for businesses. The consultation closes on Feb. 10. The Bank and the Financial Conduct Authority will publish a joint approach document in 2026 to clarify how rules will apply in practice and support a smooth transition between regimes. Statements are attached....
