Pseudonymized data isn't always regarded as personal data in transfers, EU judges say

By Matthew Newman ( September 4, 2025, 12:51 GMT | Insight) -- Pseudonymized data — personal data that has been processed so that it can no longer be linked to a specific person without additional information — isn’t always personal data ”in all cases and for every person" under EU data protection rules, the bloc's top court said in key guidance for organizations that handle such data on individuals. The comments from EU judges concern a case involving data transfers between the EU’s banking crisis-management authority and a consultancy, but they have much wider implications for sectors like healthcare which rely on the use pseudonymized data for research....
