South Korea nominates ex-vice finance minister Lee Eog-weon as FSC chair

( August 13, 2025, 08:03 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has nominated Lee Eog-weon, a former first vice finance minister and presidential economic policy secretary, as the next chair of the Financial Services Commission. Lee, currently a distinguished professor at Seoul National University and an invited research fellow at the Korea Institute of Finance, holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Missouri. Presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik has described him as a financial expert who will “faithfully implement the Lee administration’s financial philosophy,” focusing on policies to ease hardships for ordinary citizens and to promote a sound capital market.
