Don’t impose dual authorization requirements on certain CASPs, EBA says

( June 11, 2025, 09:13 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Banking Authority has advised national responsible authorities not to impose dual authorization requirements — under the EU laws on payment services and crypto-assets — for Crypto-Asset Service Providers that transact electronic money tokens. Authorities are advised to delay enforcing PSD2 authorization for such CASPs until the end of the transition period, on March 2, 2026. Once authorization under PSD2 is required, certain provisions — such as safeguarding of client funds and consumer disclosures — should be deprioritized. Meanwhile, other provisions — including strong customer authentication and fraud reporting — should continue to be enforced to ensure consumer protection.Press release follows.
