EU financial benchmark regulation officially published, to apply next January

( May 19, 2025, 09:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: An EU regulation that amends 2016 rules on financial benchmarks in relation to "the scope of the rules for benchmarks, the use in the [EU] of benchmarks provided by an administrator located in a third country, and certain reporting requirements” has been published in the EU's Official Journal. It will apply from Jan. 1, 2026. The legal text aims to cut red tape for EU companies, especially smaller businesses. Only “critical or significant benchmarks” fall within the scope of the rules, and the European Securities and Markets Authority is granted more power. Regulation attached....
