US CFPB drops data broker rulemaking

( May 14, 2025, 21:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is withdrawing its proposed regulations targeting data brokers, according to a notice published in the federal register. The notice said the proposed rulemaking in many respects is “not aligned with the Bureau’s current interpretation of” the Fair Credit Reporting Act. “When and if the Bureau determines it necessary to issue a rule implementing the relevant definitions and provisions of the FCRA, it will propose a new rule and seek public comment thereon,” the notice said.
