Final talks on EU's T+1 trade settlement nearer as governments agree stance

( May 7, 2025, 11:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU governments' ambassadors have agreed their position on a move in 2027 to a shorter settlement cycle of a single business day, known as T+1. Their proposal differs from that of the European Commission as member states seek to exempt securities financing transactions from the move. Negotiations between member states and the European Parliament are expected to start in early June. "A shorter settlement cycle of one day will make our capital markets more efficient. This is a concrete step to give heed to the calls to boost the EU’s competitiveness," Andrzej Domanski, Polish minister for finance, said.Statement follows....
