US CFTC needs more funds to oversee crypto assets, House committee top Democrat says

( March 25, 2025, 19:42 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Representative Angie Craig, the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee, called on Democrats and Republicans to work out a "durable plan" to increase funding for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission if it is to be given new powers to oversee digital assets. "Last July, at a Subcommittee hearing on reauthorizing the CFTC, we heard from commercial end users of these markets about the agency’s 'stagnant funding' and how the agency needs sufficient resources, otherwise its ability to ensure the integrity of the more traditional commodity markets for risk management purposes will be diminished," the Minnesota Democrat said at a congressional hearing. Several bills have given the CFTC oversight authority over crypto assets.Ranking Member Angie Craig Opening Statement at Hearing on CFTC 50th Anniversary Hearing...
