Payment services sector sees EU chair seek accord on payment rules revamp

Poland chairs work in the Council of the EU, which represents member states, during the first half of the year and in that time aims to make progress on several pieces of financial services legislation.Poland aims to reach an agreement in the Council of the EU on the revised Payment Services Directive and on the Payment Services Regulation by the end of June, according to a document outlining the country’s priorities in financial services regulation, which was shown yesterday at a meeting of member states' representatives and seen by MLex.Discussions between EU member states on the revision of the payment rules have been taking place for more than a year now with some issues yet to be resolved. Fraud regulation, interplay of pieces of legislation or the treatment of virtual International Bank Account Numbers are among the topics on which EU countries still need to find common ground (see here)....
