US SEC enforcement activity brakes to slowest pace in decade, study finds

By Neil Roland ( January 13, 2026, 22:51 GMT | Insight) -- The US Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement division had a “markedly slower” year in fiscal 2025 compared to the year before and the lowest level of activity in 10 years, a private analysis by the white-shoe law firm Paul, Weiss found. The new Republican administration under Chair Paul Atkins initiated only four actions against public companies in the year ended Sept. 30, 2025, and total monetary settlements tumbled 45 percent, the study found.
