UniCredit, Banco BPM take their merger fight to court

By Jean Comte ( May 23, 2025, 08:55 GMT | Insight) -- UniCredit has said it will file a lawsuit against the Italian government, to contest the conditions it imposed on the lender for its intended takeover of rival Banco BPM. The target bank also announced a legal challenge against a decision from the national financial regulator, which granted UniCredit's request to freeze its bid for 30 days in order to get clarity on the government's conditions.Italian lender UniCredit said this morning it would turn to the administrative court of Lazio to contest the conditions imposed by the state over its hostile takeover bid for Banco BPM....
