Noyb threatens legal action against German credit agency Schufa for ‘shadow database’

( August 26, 2026, 12:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: German credit agency Schufa has been threatened with legal action by privacy group Noyb over its allegedly unlawful retention of customer data. Journalists and activist groups accused Schufa of storing up to 69 million Germans' credit information in a shadow database for “testing purposes” for a longer time period than EU law allows. Noyb also accuses Schufa of refusing to disclose historic data, despite data requests. If Schufa doesn’t rectify its practices, Noyb said it will file an injunction and possibly follow up with a class action lawsuit. According to an earlier statement by Schufa, the storage is not only permissible, but necessary to fulfill its regulatory obligations of testing risk models. Schufa has been approached for comment. Statement follows....
