South Korea moves to rationalize regulatory system under presidential body

( April 16, 2026, 01:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea has launched an overhaul of its regulatory reform framework, elevating the top decision-making body to a presidential-level committee and expanding its size as part of a broader push to revamp the system after nearly three decades. At its first meeting Wednesday, the newly restructured Regulatory Rationalization Committee reviewed a blueprint to shift toward proactive, flexible and performance-based regulation, including wider use of negative regulation and AI-driven tools to anticipate regulatory risks. The plan also centers on creating large-scale “mega-special zones” offering extensive regulatory exemptions and policy incentives to attract investment and accelerate regional growth in strategic industries such as AI autonomous vehicles, robotics, energy and biotech.Statement is attached (in Korean)....
