Indonesian regulator issues new rule to strengthen digital security for rural banks

( January 9, 2026, 09:15 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia's Financial Services Authority, or OJK, which oversees the country’s banking and financial service sector, said Thursday it has issued new rules to accelerate the digitalization of rural banks and sharia rural banks, strengthening information security and personal data protection. The regulation requires lenders to apply IT governance and risk management, improve data management and enhance cyber resilience, including requirements on disaster recovery and the location of data centers in Indonesia. OJK Chief Executive for Banking Supervision Dian Ediana Rae said rural banks must build IT systems either independently or through third-party providers while applying prudential principles and prioritizing customer protection.Statement follows (Indonesian)....
