Healthplex agrees to pay $2 million to NY DFS over cybersecurity failures

( August 14, 2025, 15:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Healthplex has reached a $2 million settlement with the New York Department of Financial Services to resolve claims over cybersecurity failures that enabled an email phishing attack to expose customers’ sensitive personal data, according to a release. DFS’s investigation revealed that Healthplex had no data retention policy to limit the storage of emails in Microsoft Outlook, resulting in bad actors gaining access to troves of sensitive consumer data, the release said. As part of the agreement, Healthplex agreed to hire an independent auditor to examine the adequacy of its multi-factor authentication controls.  Statement follows in full.
