The Digital Services Act, adopted in October 2022, regulates platforms such as marketplaces, social networks, content-sharing platforms, app stores, and online travel and accommodation platforms. It ensures that user safety, liability, and e-commerce rules are adapted to today’s business models. Its main goal is to prevent illegal and harmful activities online and the spread of disinformation. It has applied to online platforms and search engines with more than 45 million users in the EU since Aug. 25 and to other platforms since Feb. 17, 2024.
