Insurers seek to exclude their risk-assessment models from EU’s AI Act

( April 14, 2026, 11:17 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Models used for risk assessment by insurers should not fall under the EU’s AI Act, the European Insurances and Occupational Pensions Authority has said. In its letter addressed to several European institutions published on Tuesday, but dated Monday, EIOPA asks to clarify the definition of an AI system, either regular or “high-risk.” EIOPA said that because insurers’ generalized linear models — which have been in use since the 1980s — are not autonomous, they should not be included in the AI Act.Letter attached....
