EU govts reach deal on capital markets integration package stance

( October 9, 2026, 10:11 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU finance ministers reached a compromise on Friday on a major package proposal to better integrate and supervise the bloc’s capital markets. It narrows down the scope of EU-level supervision initially proposed for cryptoasset service providers and trading venues and changes the European Securities and Markets Authority’s governance to shift the balance of powers towards national authorities represented in ESMA’s Board of Supervisors. It also changes ESMA financing allocation key. The text needs to be finalized and formally adopted.
