US stablecoin issuers to face fully backed liquid reserve requirements, Fed says

By Neil Roland ( September 24, 2026, 21:18 GMT | Insight) -- US stablecoin issuers would have to fully back their cryptocurrencies with quality liquid reserves at all times and would have to diversify these assets under a rule proposal issued by the Federal Reserve. The proposal, which seeks to implement the July 2025 GENIUS Act, also would impose capital requirements on issuers to address their operational risks, and on reserve assets that are uninsured deposit claims and undercollateralized reverse repurchase agreements.
