UK govt accepts call for regulators to clarify AI rules for financial services

( July 14, 2026, 16:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government has accepted recommendations in a financial services AI adoption plan, which said Tuesday that regulators should clarify how existing rules apply to AI, while the Financial Conduct Authority and government should review whether the regulatory perimeter needs to change for AI-generated financial guidance. The report, commissioned by the UK finance minister and developed by executives at Starling Bank and Lloyds Banking Group, recommended retaining the current regulatory approach while providing “targeted clarification or adaptation where needed.” It also called for voluntary industry-wide disclosures distinguishing regulated from unregulated AI-enabled guidance and warned that AI-related risks require a cross-sector approach.Statement follows.
