EU plans bank-specific multiplier to offset Basel III rules, draft shows

By Fanny Roux ( March 24, 2026, 20:10 GMT | Insight) -- The European Commission will propose bank-specific multipliers to neutralize capital increases under Basel III market risk rules from January 2027, draft texts show. The multipliers will be individually calibrated and adjustable over three years. The draft, presented to EU countries Wednesday, also includes 13 relief measures and must be adopted before summer to meet the 2027 implementation deadline.The EU banking sector is about to see the European Commission propose a multiplier — or adjustment factor — aimed at "neutralizing increases in market risk capital requirements for all those banks that are negatively impacted" by the implementation of Basel III international market risk standards from January 2027, documents obtained by MLex show....
