Indonesia sets new framework for foreign financial representative offices

( March 12, 2026, 09:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority, or OJK, has issued a new regulation governing representative offices of foreign financing institutions operating in the country. In a statement Thursday, the regulator said the rule provides legal certainty for the presence of foreign financing companies, venture capital firms and other financial institutions while ensuring activities remain under prudent and transparent supervision. The representative offices may conduct promotional, liaison and supervisory functions — including overseeing financing and monitoring projects funded by their overseas headquarters — but are prohibited from carrying out financing business activities directly in Indonesia in order to safeguard financial system stability and maintain a level playing field for domestic firms.Statement follows (in Indonesian)....
