Digital euro fees, cash legal tender addressed in new EU Parliament compromise

( March 9, 2026, 16:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New draft compromise amendments on the regulation establishing a digital euro have been prepared by Fernando Navarrete Rojas, the European Parliament’s lead negotiator. The proposals address fees and charges for digital euro payment services, introducing a review clause that requires the commission to assess the regime 10 years after issuance. Separate draft compromises on the legal tender of euro cash have also been drafted, requiring member states to safeguard access to banknotes and coins, and to assure their availability.Draft compromise amendments attached.
