Vietnam’s central bank to establish rules on AI application in banking activities

( February 25, 2026, 08:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The State Bank of Vietnam has released a draft circular to regulate the application of artificial intelligence in the banking sector. The draft sets out requirements to ensure safety, manage risks and protect customer rights in AI-enabled banking activities. The circular would apply to credit institutions and branches of foreign banks, payment intermediary service providers, credit information companies, the Vietnam Asset Management Company and the Deposit Insurance of Vietnam corporation. It is expected to take effect on March 1, with a grace period until September 2027 for AI systems already in operation before the effective date. The circular would be the central bank’s first enforcement document specifically addressing the use of AI.The draft circular is attached (in Vietnamese)....
