Spain, Austria face EU action over mortgage credit rules applied wrongly

( January 30, 2026, 12:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has warned Spain and Austria for incorrectly applying rules on mortgage credit. It said the two countries failed to properly reflect requirements allowing mortgage intermediaries to operate across borders under home supervision. Spain is also accused of limiting access to credit databases, while Austria is faulted over pay rules for intermediaries’ staff. Both countries have two months to address these issues or face further legal steps.Statement follows....
