UK government drops plans to reform audit market

( January 20, 2026, 10:09 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Plans to reform the UK's audit market in the wake of some high profile corporate failures have been abandoned by the government. In a letter made public on Tuesday, Blair McDougall, the Minister for Small Business and Economic Transformation, said the government wanted to reduce burdens on business and the need for reform was less pressing. Plans to reform the auditing process in the UK had been in place since 2022 and the Labour government had pledged to carry through the changes. The letter is attached below....
