UK financial-benchmarks regulation set to be eased by government

( December 18, 2025, 11:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK government wants to ease the regulation of financial benchmarks, it said in a consultation. The government is proposing introducing an entirely new benchmarks regime, which regulates only those benchmarks or benchmark administrators that may pose systemic risks to UK financial markets. Under the new Specified Authorised Benchmark Regime, benchmarks or benchmark administrators will be designated by the finance ministry based on advice from the Financial Conduct Authority. Once designation takes effect, the relevant obligations would apply. The consultation is open until March 11.Statement is attached....
