No market abuse probe on UK fiscal statement leaks, financial watchdog says

( December 4, 2025, 13:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A series of leaks ahead of last week's key UK government fiscal statement, known as the Budget, won't face a formal market abuse inquiry, the Financial Conduct Authority has said. Leaks included finance ministry briefings to media and the state-funded Office for Budget Responsibility publishing information on the day of the finance minister's statement. FCA chief Nikhil Rathi wrote to lawmakers, saying the core purpose of the Market Abuse Regulation is "not to make judgments on political discourse, even though that discourse may on occasion have an impact on markets." The finance ministry is conducting its own inquiry, and Rathi said the FCA will engage with the ministry on it.Statement below....
