South Korean regulator pledges strong support for AI in financial, fintech sectors

( November 26, 2025, 06:50 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The chief of South Korea’s financial regulatory agency pledged on Wednesday to provide strong support for the financial sector’s artificial intelligence–driven transformation through initiatives including the creation of billions of dollars in funding. Lee Eog-weon, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, said in his opening speech at the Annual Korea Fintech Week that the government will take steps to strengthen the investment ecosystem for fintech and venture companies and to foster the continuous emergence of new financial services powered by advanced technologies. In addition to a previously announced plan to establish a 150 trillion won ($102 billion) National Growth Fund for investment in AI and other strategic sectors, the government also plans to create two funds totaling 7 trillion won over the next five years to support mid- to late-stage venture businesses and ensure smooth exits for initial investors.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
