South Korea's KakaoPay tells court Alipay data transfer was outsourcing, not provision

At the final hearing of its appeal against a January sanction by the Personal Information Protection Commission, the South Korean online payment giant delivered a forceful rebuttal to claims that it illegally sent millions of users’ personal information to Apple via Alipay, describing the regulator’s action “a decision reached under factual and legal misunderstandings.”KakaoPay argued that its transfer of South Korean users’ data to China’s Alipay was a lawful fraud-prevention outsourcing arrangement, not an illicit handover abroad of personal information to Apple, in its closing arguments Thursday in a Seoul court....
