Vattenfall, Engie, others sued in Netherlands over unlawful prices

( October 1, 2025, 07:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Vattenfall, Engie and eight other energy suppliers were sued on Wednesday at the Amsterdam District Court by the Consumer Justice Foundation, which alleges they charged unlawfully high prices. According to the CJF, the suppliers colluded since 2017 to restrict competition while using unfair clauses to raise prices through variable contracts, in breach of both competition and consumer law. This conduct pushed more than half a million households into energy poverty in 2024 and affected several small businesses in the Netherlands, the CJF said.
