Limit or dissolve cross-holdings in energy sector, Austrian watchdog says

( September 2, 2025, 14:08 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The BWB, Austria's competition authority, has said that cross-holdings among energy suppliers create structural interdependence between market players, which impedes competition. The BWB was responding to draft bills on electricity and fuel poverty, as well as proposed changes to the Energy Control Act. Cross-holdings restrict price competition and make coordination among suppliers easier. The authority is therefore calling for cross-holdings to be reduced or dissolved. Since the draft legislation doesn't address the issue, the BWB recommended introducing a mandatory special merger-control regime for all new or restructured shareholdings in the energy sector, including below the current merger-notification thresholds.Statement follows. ...
