BNPL firms see proposed UK regulatory framework published

( July 18, 2025, 00:02 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Buy now, pay later lenders in the UK will be required to conduct affordability checks on potential customers, and offer support if they get into financial difficulties, under a proposed regulatory framework published today by the Financial Conduct Authority. BNPL borrowers will also be able to complain to the Financial Ombudsman if something goes wrong. The government introduced legislation that paved the way for BNPL to come under the FCA’s remit into parliament in May this year.
