China's GDP grows 5.2 percent in second quarter on expansion in consumption

( July 15, 2025, 06:14 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China's gross domestic product grew 5.2 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the same quarter last year, down from growth of 5.4 percent in the first quarter, For the whole of the first half, GDP grew 5.3 percent year-on-year, according to Sheng Laiyun, deputy head of the National Bureau of Statistics, at a press briefing today. Sheng said the national economy has "withstood pressure and made steady improvement despite challenges." Final consumption contributed 52 percent to economic growth, highlighting domestic demand, particularly consumption, as the main driver of GDP expansion, he added.
