Private markets come under closer scrutiny of UK lawmakers

( July 2, 2025, 13:54 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: UK lawmakers in the House of Lords, Britain's upper chamber, are set to inquire whether regulatory capital and liquidity reforms introduced after the 2008 global financial crisis have reduced banks’ ability to lend — or their willingness to do so — pushing risk away from the banking sector and toward private markets. The Financial Services Regulation Committee will accept submissions until Sept. 18. "We will explore the connections between the banking sector and private markets to understand how proportionate regulation can ensure financial stability and increase the supply of lending to the real economy," said committee chair Michael Forsyth.Call for evidence is attached....
