Consultation on future of UK mortgage market opened by FCA, closes Sept 19

( June 24, 2025, 21:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK's financial services regulator has opened a 12-week public consultation on a discussion paper setting out ideas for how to improve the mortgage market. The Financial Conduct Authority's paper includes ideas such as revising lending rules to support wider access to sustainable home ownership, introducing more flexibility to promote consumer understanding, and rebalancing the collective risk appetite in lending. The watchdog said the rules implemented after the global financial crisis might have restricted consumer access to the housing market.
