Trump issues memo on reducing anticompetitive regulations
( April 10, 2025, 15:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US President Donald Trump issued an executive order on reducing anti-competitive regulatory barriers and asked heads of federal agencies to consult with Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson and the Attorney General to complete a review of all regulations subject to their rulemaking authority. Trump's memo asked that agency heads identify those regulations that create, or facilitate the creation of, de facto or de jure monopolies. It also asked to identify the creation of unnecessary barriers to entry for new market participants; limit competition between competing entities or have the effect of limiting competition between competing entities. The memo also asked to identify rulemaking that create or facilitate licensure or accreditation requirements that unduly limit competition, and those that unnecessarily burden the agency’s procurement processes, which limit companies’ ability to compete for procurements; or those that impose anticompetitive restraints or distortions on the operation of the free market.
