New Zealand data-portability legislation passes parliament

( March 26, 2025, 03:05 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: New Zealand's data-portability legislation, designed to give customers the right to securely access and request the transfer of certain data held by businesses, has passed the New Zealand parliament. In a statement today, New Zealand’s Commerce Minister, Scott Simpson, said that the passage of the 2024 Customer and Product Data Bill will enhance competition and provide consumers with better choices in key markets such as banking and electricity. He added that the government will have open banking operational by the end of the year “with regulations specific to the sector to be confirmed in the coming weeks.”The full statement by New Zealand’s Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Scott Simpson follows:...
