Germany, Hungary, others fined for failure to implement EU whistleblower rules

( March 6, 2025, 09:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Germany, Luxembourg, Czechia, Hungary and Estonia have been ordered to pay a penalty for their failure to translate on time EU rules on the protection of persons who report breaches of EU law into their national provisions. In judgments issued today, the EU's highest court upheld the European Commission's actions, ordering each country to pay a lump sum to the European Commission. In addition, Estonia must also pay a daily penalty if it still hasn't transposed the directive. Today's rulings follow separate actions brought by the commission over the countries' failure to implement the provisions by Dec. 17, 2021.An abstract of the press release follows.
