McKernan commits to restoring US CFPB elderly-exploitation office

Asked by Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto at his Senate Banking Committee confirmation hearing if he would commit to restoring that office, the nominee said he would because protecting the elderly is part of the agency’s statutory duties. The top committee Democrat, Senator Elizabeth Warren, voiced skepticism, saying, “It kind of feels like you've been lined up to be the Number One horse at the glue factory.” Jonathan McKernan, the nominee for US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director, said he would stand up to the White House if it ordered him to fire too many employees of the agency’s older Americans office for it to carry out its mission....
