EU banks brace for key rulings on the future of banking union

Confirmation by judges of what the General Court said in cases involving Dexia, Hypo Vorarlberg and Volkskreditbank would have direct consequences on the EU resolution fund. Due to the stakes, the Council of the EU, which represents EU countries, and several national banking associations have joined the fight.The EU banking supervision framework might see a significant blow if the EU Court of Justice confirms three recent rulings from the lower court. The cases mark the next step of a legal battle pitting EU banks against the Single Resolution Board — the EU body tasked with managing an EU bailout fund for banks, and built through financial contributions from the banks themselves....
