UK car finance litigation open for lawmakers' debate as 'of national importance'

A statement made on behalf of Lindsay Hoyle said he was exercising "his discretion to allow reference to those cases now and in future proceedings where necessary, as they concern a matter of national importance." Matters before the courts are usually treated as "sub judice" and not to be mentioned by lawmakers under parliamentary procedural rules. Lenders Firstrand Bank and Close Brothers are trying to challenge a Court of Appeal ruling that found it unlawful for finance providers to have paid commission to car dealers without customers' consent.Statement follows....
