US sanctions Syrian money-service businesses, owners of a financial exchange

( May 30, 2023, 14:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned two Syrian money-service businesses that have secretly helped the Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad maintain access to the international financial system. OFAC is also designating three brothers who own and operate Al-Fadel Exchange, which has facilitated millions of dollars in transfers since 2021 to accounts at the Central Bank of Syria.
