Mastercard barred from adding new customers in India over data localization breach

( July 15, 2021, 08:48 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Reserve Bank of India said it had barred Mastercard from onboarding new customers in India from July 22 over its failure to comply with data localization rules. Since 2018, India’s central bank has required that all data relating to payment systems must be stored only on servers located in India. The RBI said that Mastercard had failed to comply with those directions, “notwithstanding the lapse of considerable time and adequate opportunities being given.”The central bank's statement is attached....
