UK investment firms asked to detail impact of possible widened scope of resolution regime

The UK’s finance ministry issued a consultation paper today on the country’s implementation of the EU’s prudential rules for investment firms, noting that following the Brussels approach would mean that “significantly more” investment firms regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority would be brought into the scope of the UK’s resolution regime. The consultation also asks for views on the government’s plans to diverge from the EU capital rules on aspects of the Total Loss Absorbing Capacity requirements, as well as updates on Basel Committee on Banking Supervision market risk rules.The statement follows.
