UK climate change committee urges Johnson to boost emissions-cutting efforts

( December 18, 2019, 17:12 GMT | Official Statement) -- UK’s efforts to address the climate crisis have so far fallen short, the country’s Committee on Climate Change has said in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, urging him to step up action before the country hosts a UN climate conference in Glasgow next year. In the letter, the committee has pointed out the building, transport, power, industry as well as agriculture as the key sectors on which the UK should focus its emissions-cutting efforts. Among others, the committee advocates for a swifter phase-out of petrol and diesel cars “ideally by 2030” as well as plans to develop hydrogen and carbon capture-and-storage infrastructure.The letter is attached....
