Ex-Goldman Sachs executive Tim Leissner to pay $43.7 million for bribery of Malaysian, Abu Dhabi officials

( December 16, 2019, 19:18 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Former Goldman Sachs managing partner Tim Leissner agreed to pay $43.7 million for his role in bribing high-ranking Malaysian and Abu Dhabi officials to win bond-underwriting business from the 1Malaysia Development Berhard government-owned investment fund, the US Securities and Exchange Commission said. Goldman secured $6.5 billion in bond underwriting business as a result of the bribes, which were extended to the overseas government officials by a third-party intermediary. Leissner, who personally received $43.7 million in the scheme, was permanently barred from the securities industry as a result of his settlement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, the SEC said.
