UK's May pledges to keep 'no hard Irish border' commitment

( March 19, 2018, 18:47 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The UK stands by commitments it made in a December interim agreement not to allow a hard border on the island of Ireland, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said in a letter to European Council President Donald Tusk. That includes the UK agreeing in principle to a "backstop option" that would maintain regulatory alignment between Ireland and Northern Ireland. But the UK is dissastified with a version of that option issued by the European Commission earlier this month, May reiterated. Her letter links this affirmation with her wish for EU leaders to welcome a Brexit transition period when they meet in Brussels this week.The letter is attached....
